Southampton is a vibrant city at the best of times, at Christmas it is no exception. If you are coming to stay with us over the festive period there are some places you must see!
One of the most popular events over Christmas is the Continental Market. The Above Bar Street will be heaving with the smell of mulled wine and German sausages sizzling on a huge open pan ready for all to indulge. Little huts containing original gifts such as wooden ornaments to hand crafted unique items are all ready to look good in anyone’s stocking.
Fair ground rides for the kids make the Christmas shopping experience even better. Open from 15th November.
The hub of Christmas entertainment is this year’s pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk at the Mayflower Theatre. Every year this historical venue never fails to disappoint with a whole host of stars coming to the city – and most chose to stay with Town or Country. Enjoy the traditional delights with Julian Clary leading the cast as the Spirit of the Beans, and smoothie Nigel Havers taking on the baddy role as Fleshcreep. Expect some good old family entertainment and some 3D effects! Panto runs from 22nd December to 19 2012 January 2013.
This is one of Southampton’s highlights of Christmas and has a new home. The indoor ice skating rink only pops up once a year and can be found at the Bargate Shopping centre, Above Bar street. The rink was going to be a permanent venture until the planners ran out of funds. So this rink is extra special. Expect a queue though and the odd bump!
WestQuay Shopping Centre
Shopping in one of the south’s biggest centres is a treat any time, let alone Christmas. WestQuay really gets behind the festive season with shows in the centre concourse and a great selection of shops to choose from (see blog). The major highlight is the John Lewis store which every year competes with it self to bring the most extravagant of decoration and delight. Open till 8pm Mon-Friday.
Book with us now and have a Merry Christmas with Town or Country.
