TOCA History: Aviation Museum

Southampton City Centre is steeped in history with many of our properties near by, some of which are part of the history themselves! We take a look at one of the famous parts of the city of which are actually closer than you think. This month we take a look at The Solent Sky Museum.

There is a little secret that can easily be missed in the city – especially if you are an aviation fan. The Solent Sky Museum houses Southampton’s finest collection of aircraft, all connected to the city.

The sea plane came first, the museum second and built around it!

From the grand size of the sea plane (originally built across Southampton Water in Calshot) to the Spitfire and helicopters of the Hampshire skies this place offers a great education and walkabout for air enthusiasts of all ages.

Funded entirely by donations and with the expert help of volunteers (some of which are ex-services) you really will learn a lot about the local history of the area as well as get to check out the aircraft close up.
