The gym. For some a Mecca for sculpting the perfect body. For others a tedious pastime. There are other ways to keep fit and have fun at the same.
If you though being part of a sail boat crew was just being sat back and relaxing on the bow think again. As part of the team it is all about pulling up the sails, gearing up the boat and working the masts. The strain of the sail will leave you aching for a day or two but well worth the effort of travelling at speed along the Solent.
Sunsail based in Port Solent, Portsmouth offer day and weekly skipper courses. All staff are RYA qualified and offer a professional yet fun approach to learning to sail.
The new kid on the exercise block is army boot camp. For resistance training, running with tyres and using body weight to keep fit these outdoor classes offer a great alternative to toning.
With many springing up all over the south coast some are run by ex-army PT instructors who put you through your paces. If your goal is to keep fit and have fun we cannot recommend this enough. We recently had a go with On Form Personal Training who run twice weekly sessions in Whiteley, near Fareham. Check out the video via the Facebook page for more.
From Army Boot camp comes the Tough Mudder ‘a team-oriented 10-12 mile (18-20 km) obstacle course designed to test physical strength and mental grit. Tough Mudder puts camaraderie over finisher rankings and is not a timed race but a team challenge that allows participants to experience exhilarating, yet safe, world-class obstacles they won’t find anywhere else’.
Many raise money for charity at various events across the country. Its another great way to have fun in the mud!
