Don’t Hate, Donate!, Portsmouth
Portsmouth-based grassroots movement Don’t Hate, Donate is hosting a special event with the famous Toy Smuggler of Aleppo.
Rami Adham has become known as ‘The Toy Smuggler of Aleppo’, following his exploits taking toys and gifts to children in war-torn Syria. The Syrian-Finnish father of 6 gathers toys and money in Finland, before being smuggled into Aleppo thanks to his contacts in Turkey and Syria. Every journey is life-threatening and often involves walking for six or seven hours straight. Rami has travelled into Syria some 28 times in five years, delivering not only toys but food and other necessary products. It’s thought Rami’s work has also helped fund four schools in Syria.
This event will see Rami visit Portsmouth and talk about what he’s seen and done during his exploits.
There will also be a live link up with Tauqir ‘Tox’ Sharif, a British aid worker from London who has lived amidst the civil war with his wife and children since 2012. Tox and his team bring aid to thousands of internally displaced Syrians, which almost certainly saved many lives during the recent harsh winter.
